Stanford: Demmy Dominated
Posted by gauloises1 on August 2, 2009
You have to feel for Elena Dementieva sometimes. She works so hard, plays great to get into the final stages of a tournament, and then – bam! Runs into Venus who kills her, 60 61.

The second semi-final was much more hotly contested. Bartoli played a great first set, taking an early break and clinging on to it. Then Stosur relaxed, started swinging freely, and played a sublime set, completely shutting Bartoli out of the second. But, being Sam Stosur, she totally crumbled in the third and Bartoli wrapped it up 61 in the third to set up a Wimbledon ’07 rematch with Venus in the final.

Oh, and Venus and Serena rolled over Mattek-Sands and Petrova 62 62 to reach the doubles final. They’ll play Chan and Niculescu. Ouch.

Singles – Semifinals
(2) Venus Williams (USA) d. (3) Elena Dementieva (RUS) 60 61
(8) Marion Bartoli (FRA) d. Samantha Stosur (AUS) 63 16 61
Doubles – Semifinals
(2) Williams/Williams (USA/USA) d. (3) Mattek-Sands/Petrova (USA/RUS) 62 62
Chan/Niculescu (TPE/ROU) d. (4) Cirstea/Kirilenko (ROU/RUS) 36 63 108

more seriously… Sam Stosur possesses one of the most interesting games in womens tennis… unfortunately it is controlled by Sam Stosurs brain.
Still, Marion was so on in terms of return of serve yesterday in the 3rd set it was a thing to see indeed.

I question your use of the word “controlled”, but yes, nicely put
I was half asleep for most of the third set so I can’t really say, but for the first two sets I thought it was an absolutely cracking match, didn’t you?
