O Valencia!

This week sees the debut of the revamped Valencia Open, formerly a spring clay-court tournament, now a 500 occupying the calendar slot previously held by the Madrid Masters. And oh yeah, Boss owns it. Like he owns you, and your mum, and your little dog too. All of which means good photo-age of Boss and his co-owner Ferru.

I just wish said suit wasn’t so blue.

I think that in the first photo of him all blue-suitified, the flash made the suit look EXTRA blue.
Anyway, at first I was a bit jarred by it, but now I’m all over it. He’s like el Doctor Quien.

Just looked at the draw. Andy’s half is looking good, injuries aside he should do well, here’s hoping. THe other half (JC and Monaco’s half) looks tight. Should be good. Nadal is conspicous by his absence… is this part of the continuing Davis cup induced Spanish civil war?

No — Nadal has been pretty clear that if Spain made the DC final, he was going to limit the tournaments he played in the fall because he wanted to be healthy for the final. The Valencia tournament was trying to “woo” him all year, and he held off on committing for that reason (he made comments with regard to the situation much earlier than the little “feud” over the final location) — he did say that he hopes to play there in future years.
From what I can gather, if he wasn’t healthy enough to play Beijing, he would have asked for a wild card into Valencia, since the ATP rules stipulate that you need to play a 500-level tourney after the US Open.

The stadium place DOES look quite cool, actually. Sort of Georgia O’Keefe-esque.

Er … after watching the video, let’s just pretend I didn’t say anything about O’Keefe. From far away it looks more like Evil Lord Galacton’s lair.
