One Imaginary Step Forward, Two Actual Steps Back
Posted by gauloises1 on April 26, 2010
So I’m sure that a lot of you heard the rumours, apparently originating from this blog, that del Potro was hoping to take a wildcard into Estoril or Belgrade and return to the tour the week of May 2nd. I didn’t blog it because I didn’t want to raise any hopes, including my own. Which as it turns out was wise, because he isn’t coming back; after just a few days’ training, the wrist hurt him again and he had to visit another specialist, postponing his return until Madrid at the earliest.
I’m seriously starting to wonder if he’s ever coming back. If he can’t even train properly after all this rest …

aaaaaaaaaw crap. that is all.

It’s this constant back-and-forth that gets to me. What other conclusion can you draw apart from that he and his team (specialists notwithstanding) don’t understand what the problem is or how to fix it?
Well, I suppose that you can also conclude that it’s just too serious and it’s never going to get better.

I know it’s frustrating. Hopefully, the injury isn’t as serious as it seems. otoh, I’m glad that he isn’t making a hasty comeback to protect his ranking points and so on. Smart guy!

Don’t get me wrong, I hope he stays away for as long as it takes to get better, even though it kills me and basically takes away 50% of my interest in tennis (yeah, I know, I’m pathetic).
It’s the fact that he isn’t getting better and nobody seems to know why that’s hard to take. If there was a light at the end of the tunnel …

Understood, Gauloises. His big hitting is really missed. Hang in there.

seems to me that Muzzard is doing a good job of protecting Delpos ranking…maybe Noodle and Satan will do likewise. But seriously… the doctors don’t know what is wrong? Get to America young man.

I’m fairly certain that he did go see a specialist in the US recently? I swear I read it somewhere, but I wouldn’t put it past me at this point (I’m rather overloaded at work at the moment) to have completely invented that fact.

I recall reading that he came to the US for something as well.

*replying because above went mad*
Yes, he consulted Dr Richard Berger at the Mayo Clinic and another American doctor whose name escapes me.

ok so much for the Greatest Nation on earth and their lack of death panels.
British National Health Service that would be the ticket… that has all kinds of comedy potential with G dressing up as a nurse and taking Delpo off for spurious examinations that involve him disrobing completely in a Nurse Betty manner.
Delpo will protest that it is just his elbow but G will counter with the scientific truth that the elbow bone is connected to the thigh bone…eventually… and that he clearly needs to take a more gestalt approach to his health.

PMSL! That’s cheered me up – Delpo in a hospital gown being disrobed by Gauloises! But yeah I’m missing him like crazy, Cilic fills the really tall man gap at the mo, but I want Elf!

Not at all the news I wanted to read.
I’m thinking it was a very bad decision on his part to play in the Australian Open. I am very happy he’s not rushing back now (although I HATE that he’s in the position where he’s this injured and can’t play), but I can’t help wondering if he playing in the Australian Open has contributed to the injury/damage?

This really does stink. I am also beginning to get very worried about how long this will go on and if/when he will be able to come back. It has already been 1/3+ of the tennis season.

*hugs Gaul* Awful news
Here’s hoping they find the problem, fix it, and he comes back better than ever!

one of the fan pages (unless it’s his page cos it seems to know what’s going on before anyone else) on facebook said he’s trying to get into one of the May 4 tourneys but since they refused invites earlier it may not be possible and may have to wait till Madrid… so happy days may be ahead! get work done now!
