Fed Cup: Saturday Results

Posted by gauloises1 on April 25, 2009

Italy 2 Russia 0

Who called it, bitches?

Italy takes a 2-0 lead after Flavia Pennetta dusted the inexplicably picked Anna Chakvetadze 6-4, 6-0 and Francesca Schiavone fought back after losing the first to upset Svetlana Kuznetsova, 1-6 6-2 6-3. What are you going to do now, Shamil?

Czech Republic 1 USA 1

Things started off well for the hosts as Petra Kvitova took care of Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-3 7-6(2). However, the surprise of the day was Alexa Glatch, who was picked by team captain Mary-Joe Fernandez over Melanie Oudin. She beat Iveta Benesova 6-1, 6-2. Great win there.

Germany 2 China 0

Lisicki keeps up her current great form as she beat Zheng Jie for the first point, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Anna-Lena Groenfeld kept her end up, too, beating Peng Shuai 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Serbia 2 Spain o

No surprises here. Jelena Jankovic beat Martinez Sanchez in fairly comprehensive style 6-3, 6-4. Ana Ivanovic needed three sets to beat Medina Garrigues (HELLO MENTAL FRAGILITY) but managed it in the end, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

France 1 Slovak Republic 1

Alize’s run of losses / tough 3-set losses / tough 3-set losses in Fed Cup continues, losing to Daniela Hantuchova 7-6(2), 3-6, 4-6. Luckily for her, Momo (ALLEZ!) stepped up and took care of Dominika Cibulkova 4-6 6-2 6-3 to keep the tie alive. Ah, my beautiful Amelie. Is there nothing she can’t do?

Argentina 0 Ukraine 2

You know what? I’m not even that interested. Koryttseva won, one of the Bondarenkos won, whatever.
