Image is Everything: French Open Men’s Final

Posted by gauloises1 on June 7, 2009

What to say about this match? You all saw it, I assume. Some probably from behind the sofa, but you saw it.

Clearly Robin Soderling  was nervous in the first set, which seemed to fly by. But the second set was close as anything, and that tiebreak was one of the most magnificent demonstrations of nerve and courage I’ve ever seen. Who says Fed doesn’t have Wilanders?

From then on history was on his side … and so it proved.

So enjoy some more shots I liked of today’s action.

Roger holding that cup just feels so right. The president of the FFT looks so freakin’ tiny; I want to put him in my pocket. I want to hug Robin and “yoke” around with him. I hope Roger wins Wimbledon again.

Damn, I need a hug. This Roland Garros has left me drained, emotional, ecstatic, sad, delighted, overjoyed, paranoid and a little turned on.

I want to save the “yoking” moment. It will be up there with the fish video as “things to watch anytime I need to smile”. It somehow added so much to this moment that you couldn’t really be sad for the loser, you know? Soderling had a fantastic tournament, scored a historical win, and followed it up with 2 amazing wins to make the final. His career is on another level. He also handled himself so well. I was just happy for everyone at the end of the match, as opposed to my half crushed/half elated feeling yesterday. This is better.

This script was perfect. Warm fuzzies all around.
