DC: You Know When You’ve Been Gonzo’d

Posted by gauloises1 on August 8, 2009

Gonzo earned his keep today, defeating Tommy Haas 75 64 in a match that seemed much more routine than the scoreline suggests.

I felt like it was Gonzo all the way, really. Haas was bitching and moaning from the start and while the first set scoreline was relatively tight, Gonzo just stepped it up and broke when he needed to. Haas simply imploded in the second, and had Gonzo not seen something shiny, it would have been 6-2. The man is looking good, in more ways than one.

Which is actually not great news for Elf fans, as the two will face off in the semi-finals. And Gonzo is 3-0 up in the H2H. Mind you, they haven’t played since the Australian Open in 2007 … Could be an interesting (i.e. insane-making) match.

And much as I love you, Gonzo, I’d really love it if you lost this one. I’m just saying.

It’s hard to root against someone who rubs his ass on the lines at Roland Garros but I need Elf to win this. I feel like he needs to be comforted and I think a title would do the trick.

“had Gonzo not seen something shiny, it would have been 6-2.” Someone needs to go to Washington for the Gonzo-Elf match with lots of aluminium foil.

Agreed — I really like Gonzo, despite and/or because of his crazy antics, buuut me thinks Elf needs this title.

Then again, if Gonzo wins, I wouldn’t be utterly depressed. Just mildly depressed.

And I’m thrilled (sarcasm.) that ESPN2 will be showing JUST the Roddick match … boooring. Someone’s gonna get a punch …

Preach, sistah preach. (I canNOT use that phrase properly)

Tennis coverage in the U.S. is a filthy joke. We tennis fans need to rise up and violently protest this abuse (or continue to bitch on the internet, you know, whatever.)

OK, you get the codes for the ESPN studio and I’ll sort us out a getaway car.

(Pretending that this actually means something … haven’t watched enough spy movies, evidently)

*Tries to use her sexuality to get the ESPN codes.*

            We need a plan B.

*Refuses to admit she knows even less about spies than IRTTY*

There are worse people for Elf to lose to. But still. I *want* this title for him. Sorry Gonzo, but take a dive.

I’m going to have to root for Gonzo in this one. He makes my mind go to the no-no places, and that’s a good thing.

But I mean everyone knows my focus is on the other side of the draw, let’s not kid ourselves. And I have more faith that Rod can beat Gonzo than Elf, so that’s really my motive.

I’m going for Elf for 2 reasons. 1, it MUST feel good if you can defend a title ( he did win last year right?). Secondly, he’s my pick for a suicide pool and there’s only 2 peeps left, and my opponent went with Gonzo..!! All elvin cuteness aside, i really wanna win a pool for a change 🙂

    • irefusetotellyou said

I have no idea what a suicide pool is, but it scares me. Does it involve tainted kool-aid?

    • gauloises1 said

God, suicide pools are fun. I would have won the Wimbledon one if I hadn’t panicked and changed my quarter-final pick from Dinara to Licky at the last second, you know. And no, I don’t know what I was thinking either.

Um, where is this pool where there are only two people left in? I want to play.

      • irefusetotellyou said

Again, what is this SUICIDE POOL phenomenon you speak of?

I guess I could google / wikpedia it, but that would require effort. Ew.
