Montreal: Should Have Played In Your Pants, Nole

Posted by gauloises1 on August 15, 2009

So, yes. Andy Roddick beat Novak Djokovic for the third successive time this year, 64 76(4).

Why do I feel like this photo really sums up Nole’s year?

Disappointing. It’s not that he lost, so much; it’s the way that he lost. All credit to Andy Roddick though, who’s continuing his great form.

And you know what this means … Washington rematch! Yes, it’ll be Andy Roddick and Juan Martin del Potro facing off in a big match for the second time in two weeks. I’m nervous already.

Urgh, Nole. I have yet to watch the Roddick / Nole match (taped it last night), but Novak is making it hard for me to believe that he deserves no. 3 in the world … granted, it’ll change soon …

And I have a good feeling about JMDP’s chances tonight, I really do. Though I must say, despite my previous ill feelings toward Roddick, he really has upped his playing ante, so he deserves respect for that. I suppose.

By the by, love the poll.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Del Potro and Roddick pass Nole in the rankings by the end of the year. 😦 Well, I would be thrilled for Elf if he breaks into the top four, but I’m really saddened by Nole’s seeming inability to play his tennis with confidence, bravado, and happiness. He seems like he’s laboring out there, and not laboring his way to wins, just laboring.

When in doubt, ALWAYS vote for making out :). If the rumours are true that Nole is bringing Todd Martin on board, this may turn his year around. I’ve felt like Nole’s needed to shake up his team situation for a while now. I was sad that Nole played Andy so…well “politely”. I really wanted him to get mad, or something, but he just looked so flat emotionally. Funny that twice now when he’s been slumping a little, its always Rafa’s fault. Queens ’08 and apparently their Madrid match.

D’you think it’s a confidence issue with Nole, like my nemeses (sans Cahill) on ESPN were saying? Or is it more of a need-to-get-more-practice-discipline-etc. thing?

After watching the match I can’t say he played too badly; I mean, he had some dumb unforced errors, but he also had some really well-placed shots. More upset/frustrated with Roger’s play in the last match than with Nole, me thinks.

I honestly think he needs someone to push him a little. Todd Martin is a complete pro, and could probably help Novak find a little inspiration and improve his net play. Sometimes a change is as good as a rest, and since Nole had the rest portion post Wimby, he needs someone to crack the whip a little and i just haven’t been convinced that Marian’s been doing that for a while. It was weird at how well Novak would set a point up, then completely misfire either wide, or long, or sometimes just hit a passive shot.

Also, i think Novak is too sensitive when it comes to playing Randy, like he has to mind his p’s and q’s around him since the incident at the USO last year.
