Elf Takes the Catwalk

Posted by gauloises1 on August 19, 2009

Well, it doesn’t look like he’s going home, that’s for sure.

From cincinnati.com:

He’s ranked No. 6 in the world, but among more than 400 women at today’s matches at the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters, Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina may briefly challenge Roger Federer for No. 1 — at least off the court.

Wearing tennis whites, del Potro dropped in at the Macy’s Ladies Day Brunch and Fashion Show, held in a giant tent near center court, and in his halting English worked his Argentine charm by saying he had never before seen so many beautiful  women in one place. If that didn’t do the trick, his promise to return to Mason next year did.

Then, as he headed off to sign autographs at the tennis complex’s main souvenir and equipment store, del Potro proved that it’s possible for the same person who could stop traffic in Buenos Aires to pass virtually unnoticed in Greater Cincinnati, even among an informed tennis crowd. As he crossed the grounds, only one or two heads turned his way.

Man, I want to live somewhere it’s possible for a gorgeous six foot seven Argentine to be a routine sight.

Maybe Argentina would be a good bet …

That’s beyond adorable. And I’m thrilled he’s still in the U.S. JJ and I have been searching the Argentinean press, trying to figure out where he was, and were coming up empty.

    HAHAHAH hkasdsjkfdaskadffsdajksdafkjasfd

Excuse me while I go have a fit somewhere.

  3. OMG ! N° 2 pic is what you call HOTNESS.

  4. gauloises1 said

Agreed that the second pic is frankly hot, but the first just reduces me to helpless giggles. I don’t think I can be blamed for this.

Anyway … at least he’s still where it’s steamy.

The 1st picture is rather hilarious — I like his typical “MODEL” hands-on-hip pose.

    He looks very comfortable, no?
    (You’re right — NO.)

Awww that he wasn’t recognized around the grounds. Well, maybe some folks stopped by for an autograph. 🙂

I see he is wearing rather Nalby like shoes in the first picture.

P.S: He may be where it’s “STEAMY,” but it’s also where there be some heavy duty thunderstorms and tornadoes.

Here’s hoping I don’t get swept away in a funnel cloud … unless I get swept away and then thrown straight into Elf’s arms.

    Yep, now it’s sounding better.

The first pic is hilariously awkward. The second is delicious, but I prefer him clean-shaven.

I’m new to posting on this blog, and I am going to shamelessly (okay, feeling slight shame) re-post my first comment since I fear that it has gotten lost in the amazing amount of blog posts in the past couple of days.

“I was at the final [of Montreal] (the semis, too), and I got to say it was heart-breaking for me when he lost the 2nd set tiebreak, because it was obvious the heat (or perhaps more precisely, the humidity) was killing him. During the morning practice, he came much later than Murray and left first (kind of abruptly too). Murray also does his amazing, well-documented fitness training in freaking Miami, so I’m sure this weather was nothing.

I’ve been reading this blog for a while now, and I think the JMDP luvin’ has totally rubbed off on me. I was surprised to see how hard I was cheering him at the matches (I suppose it helped that I don’t care for Murray). It also doesn’t hurt that the first time that I saw him, he was shirtless. From what I could gather from the tournament, he seems like an awesome guy (*cough*withwhomiwanttodoterriblethings*cough*). Anyway, with the help of you, gauloises, I’ve become a major fan – and I am glad to see he has a great attitude going forward.”

I also have some pics of the shirtless practice (no closeups, I’m afraid), but I don’t know how to share them with you guys painlessly (i.e. not stuffing someone’s inbox).

YAY Rulin! Good for you on all accounts.

And — excuse me — SHIRTLESS PRACTICE PICTURES!? Lord, if only I was lucky enough to have those stuffed in my inbox daily. What a true treat that would be.

Also, if I could get the REAL THING stuffed in my inbox daily … mmm. You know what I’m sayin?

Thanks so much for sharing Rulin! I’m so jealous you were at the semis and final of Montreal — I’d love to go someday, as it seems like a great place to watch tennis. And, wow on the shirtless practice photos!
