Cincinnati: Bring On The Murderer

Posted by gauloises1 on August 21, 2009

It’ll be Andy Murray vs Roger Federer in the first semifinal in Cincinnati. I’m excited already.

Lest anyone should need reminding, the H2H now stands at 6-2 in Murray’s favour, with Murray having won their last 4 previous meetings. The one before that was the US Open final. Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever seen these two play and not really enjoyed it. I’m excited.

Mind, given that Fed rolled over Hewitt in straights and Murray took three sets of shambolic tennis to overcome Julien Benneteau, I may not well get the match or result I want.

And how about a hand for our gallant losers?

Thanks for playing.

I’m a way bigger Fed fan, but I still feel like Murray will win (despite his poor form in the 1st set against two-tone-Benny.) Fed always makes me nervous when I watch him — is that slice gonna go straight into the net!? — but I never feel that way when watching Murray … I feel like he’s less likely to choke than Fed. (At least lately. 4-0 Tsonga anyone?)

mmm i think it will come down to how “up” Fed is for this match. If he get’s into a dogfight with Andy right from the start, he may bow out gracefully. At this point i think he only is really willing to gut it out for the majors. However, if Rog gets a break early, he may just run the table.

I was at both matches, and Muzzah was pretty craptastic until that 53 stroke rally, Bennetau should have ended the point a lot sooner, he had like 3 overheads that he didn’t do enough with, after that it was all she wrote, I saw it coming and headed over to see some Ferru/Robredo vs. a team I’ve never heard off, Ferru can’t sit still, he’s always muttering and bouncing about, dude is sooo hyper…well my cheering did no good, they still lost..lol

Do not let the routiness of the Fed’s win fool you, to my eyes he didn’t play that great, Hewitt was never in the match, did nothing with all the 2nd serves the Fed served, couldn’t find his 1st serve either, which made the Fed look totally awesome, he wasn’t that awesome…lol, though he did move a hail of a lot better than the match against Ferru, dude shanked his personal quota of BH and FHs…

So yeah based on both players play it’s a total toss up, neither of them blew me away…it all comes down to the serve, whoever hits the serve wins the match

had no idea who was going to win this. murray has been playing lights out tennis. very happy fed got through, or rather played so well and won. i think the keys were fed didn’t do a walkabout, incredible 2nd serves to the body and flummoxed murray with floater balls down the middle. interesting to see how murray will readjust his game for their next meeting. two tactical giants out there.

can anyone explain why fed’s 1st serve percentage has been abysmal overall ? no question that when he gets it in, one of the best in tennis.
