I, Witness: Rulin In Montreal

Posted by gauloises1 on August 21, 2009

As usual, you know how I love eyewitness reports, keep them coming …

Today’s installment comes courtesy of Rulin, who was lucky enough to stalk see Elf in Montreal and generous enough to share the love. First up we have Elf practicing shirtless before the semis:

At the end, his coach tossed some balls over to us and then Juan hit some over too.
The practice seemed very positive and it inspired a lot of hope in me that he would win that night, even after he was a set down.
As I said, unfortunately the photos aren’t that close…
Murray actually practiced on the court closet to the camera, so they were my best photos.
I think we all wish the situation was reversed. =P

That last photo … Seriously, I love nice backs. And that is a nice back.

Ahem. Anyway.

Here’s some Sunday photos of (1) JMDP arriving at the stadium (with familiar looking shoes ), looking kind of bleary-eyed (uh-oh…), and (2) the end of his practice.
I got some nice shots of both Murray and Juan practicing, but these are the photos that were sort of foreboding.
It looked like the heat was getting to him, and he spent a couple of minutes just sitting and watching Murray (#1), and also talking to his coach with his head in his towel.
Then he just suddenly left (#2). As I said, he arrived after Murray and left before.
I was preparing myself for a straight set loss after that, so as not to be disappointed… needless to say, JMDP totally exceeded my expectations.

Hmmm … Knowing how it turned out, these pictures kind of make me sad. But then they’re photos of Elf. So not that sad.

Thanks so much to Rulin for the great photos and eyewitness report 🙂

LOVE those photos of him outside the van! He’s so close … so close … yet so far.

How’d you find him there!? (I admire your stalking skills.)

P.S: Shirtless Davin alert in the penultimate picture.

It is my pleasure to share!

My stalking skills actually impressed me. It was my first time ever around a tennis stadium, and I am not really an explorer. But when I arrived on Sunday, I saw these girls (tennis groupies?) standing around a side door to the Tennis Canada building with their cameras ready to go. That made me curious, and it soon hit me that it must be where the players enter. Sure enough, around 10 minutes later, Andy Murray arrived.

Of course I have nothing to compare this to, but the Uniprix stadium seems quite intimate. You can get very close to the players when they are travelling between the locker rooms and their practice courts (I probably could have jumped JMDP if I was, y’know, crazy).

Lord knows I will definitely jump on JMDP if I ever have the opportunity.

(P.S: I just realized that I constantly use phrases that include the words “Lord” and “Jesus” on here, which is strange, since I don’t really do that in real life. Also, I’m on the Atheistic side … weird. Lord only knows!)

I do that too, IRTTY, and I have no idea why.

Rulin … excellent stalking, I commend you.

Thanks for the pics Rulin!!! I can’t wait to do some stalking of my own in just a couple of weeks- less even!!! I’m way too excited, haha.

    That’s exciting, Linz!

Watching the Cincy final made me realize that I am suffering some sort of JMDP-withdrawal. I could gush about this guy all day – and this is the perfect place :). He’s obviously got this broody sexiness going on. But he also has this shy, quiet guy quality. He seemed to be… hmm, can’t think of the right words… appreciative/humbled/amazed by all the fans who came out to his practice and wished him well. And as he was driving away from his Sat. practice, he smiled shyly and sort of waved. It was totally adorable. It reminded me of the FO quote when he said that he hoped one day to have the crowd behind him like Federer did/does. Perhaps it’ll happen sooner than he thinks!

His game is awesome too. I love watching him serve. His net clearance is incredibly low. I mean, everybody hits the ball so low, but it looks more spectacular coming from a big man. His defense/movement is also quite good for a big guy and his volleying is improving in a big way. I think it’s his personality that gives him the maturity at a relatively young age – he’s pretty chill. His mental game is at another level… I can’t believe the scoreline at AO against Fed was from this year… now he’s saving MP’s with big serves. The only problem is I still don’t exactly know if he’s going to ace or DF a break point.

Oh, and Davin was always shirtless at the practices. He has a tattoo on his left shoulder of which I tried, but failed, to get a photo.

Can’t wait for the USOpen – I hope the newfound attention does not pressure him though!

Oops, might be confusing coach and fitness coach re: tattoo.
