Kuala Lumpur: Hello, Goodbye

Posted by gauloises1 on October 1, 2009

Say hello to Joachim Johansson:

Say goodbye to Joachim Johansson. The Pimback, or at least this manifestation of it, came to an end when he lost to Richard Gasquet 62 in the third. I heard he was tapped after two sets against Hewitt the other day, but still a good effort from him. It’ll be Verdasco for Richie next in the quarters, who dropped just four games after Karol Beck.

Actually, the quarter-final lineup looks pretty good in a lot of senses. Gonzo-Youzhny? Yes please.

Tomas Berdych will face Robin Soderling next (another yes please) after it took him three sets to beat Simon Greul. But he still had time to hang around with the ballkids.

I hate that I’m starting to like him. This can only lead to misery. Anyway, the fourth quarter-final is possibly the most cracking of the lot. Gael Monfils beat Vassallo Arguello 64 62 and will take on Nikolay Davydenko next. Crikey!

I think it says a lot about the depth mens game that these quarterfinal matches in a small event (is this a 250 or a 500? 250 right?) are so TASTY.

I might have to end my USOpen hangover and actually stay up tonight to find streams. At least for Gonzo. I’ll officially do anything for Gonzo.

I mean seriously, all of these guys are either in the top 10 now or have been in the past 2 years (I actually looked it up- Youzhny was ranked 8 at the beginning of last year. Yeah, I don’t know what happened either). Anyways, good stuff.

Also, I’m still DYING laughing at Fifi’s hair. And sobbing over Feli’s. It’s been an up-and-down day.

Nope. I thought the hair would get better once the cap went away but I was wrong. I guess it looked good back then because he was still a young kid (18-19?) but now he’s a man with facial hair and tattoos so… no.

I need to go find Feli’s new hair. Will do that now.

I think it’s a 250 and damn straight it’s a testament to the depth of the game. I’m trying to think which seeds lost early and only coming up with Rusty.

Still don’t like the hair. Oh Gael.
AW Pim Pim! Funny that he lost to another dude on a ‘comeback.’ I’d choose Joachim to win, even though I heart Gasquet.

In Elf-related news, I thought you’d like this Gaul. I was doing the crossword today and the very last clue was (3-letter word): “Del Potro won his last one against Federer, 6-2.”

Put a smile on my face.

OK, I can’t find a good picture without going on to Feli’s MTF thread and I’m bloody well not going to do that, that way lies madness.

    OMG, I love that, harini!

Nothing much new to add — BUT HAS IT EVER STOPPED ME BEFORE?

Big Berdy’s smile is adorable. Me thinks the match against RobSod will be a good one (although I also thought that Pim Pim would win over Gasquet … )

sorry Linz but how is it depth if all the guys are top 10?? The top guys always winning is no indication of “Depth” Depth is when you have a qualifier that can take out the top seed surely? I just am tired of this idiotic meme
