Momo Ends Season, Considers Retirement. I Cry.

Posted by gauloises1 on October 9, 2009

Amelie Mauresmo has withdrawn from the remaining tournaments she was planning to play in 2009 – Linz and Luxembourg – and is seriously contemplating retirement. Sad face.

According to a brief statement on her official website:

Since my return from the US Open, I tried to practice, but I haven’t found the thirst to compete. I won’t rush into things or force the issue. I’ll give myself time to think, in order to make a decision as for the rest of my career.

I feel like I’ve barely seen her since Wimbledon, and now she’s thinking about quitting?

One more year, Momo. Please.

Probably losing to an untalented player like the Canadian Wonziak (I have nothing against this girl but she is just one more ball basher) did not help. Amelie do not worry everyone can have a bad day which probably was what happened to you that day.

Unfortunately, though it has happened more than once this year, and that must hurt. Players who are used to good results as Amelie won´t settle to lose against players who they know are inferior.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I want her to stay and win but I do think it would be better for her to retire than stay miserable on the tour losing to inferior opponents (i.e. everyone). If retirement would make her happy than go ahead Momo. Having said that, excuse me while I fashion a noose.

But she has had some really good times this year! Winning Paris was A-MA-ZING and she played some fab matches during the clay season and at Wimbledon.

And yes, I want her to be happy, but I also want me to be happy, and a Momo-less WTA is not the way to happiness for me.

I really thought she would hang around for another year after she had some good results this spring/early summer. I still think she will after a bit of a break- I just don’t feel like we’ve seen the last of her.

In other news, how big is my head going to get during the “Linz” tournament? It’s going to be awesome.
