Beauty Is Pain

Posted by gauloises1 on October 23, 2009

Further information from ToothGate; according to this article (or at least the Google translate of this article), JDMP was in pain throughout the Asian swing because he had his various teeth procedures without anaesthetic, in order not to violate any anti-doping rules.

That’s A Million Little Pieces-esque. Poor Elf. And oh yeah, some stuff about the wrist and hoping he’ll be OK for Basel.

They’re not even allowed to use anaesthetic for major dental procedures? Holy shit! Also, I want to comfort him but also chastise him for fucking with his teeth.

geez. i don’t think lidocaine for the dental work would make Elf gain an unjust sporting advantage, WADA. you just got more evil points. pffftt.

I meant to mention this earlier so I’m glad you found the article! I can’t imagine going through the work he did without any type of anesthetic — I hope he was at least under the influence of nitrous oxide (although is that considered an anesthetic? I’m not sure what it’s classified as) — let’s just say laughing gas can make getting that type of work in your mouth much more bearable.

But that’s daft. So many players have surgery (shoulder/knee/wrist) there must be no problem with anaesthetic. Besides, even if they did knock him out, he’d want to sue his dentist if he was experiencing pain that long after the procedure. Especially as players use painkillers all the time. Ah Elf, what price vanity? I’m still wondering why he did the teeth after the USO instead of waiting for the off-season.
