And I’m Back In The Game!

Posted by gauloises1 on November 20, 2009

So is Boss. It’s been confirmed (via the AP) that Juan Carlos Ferrero, not Tommy Robredo, will be the alternate for the Spanish squad for the Davis Cup final against the Czech Republic.

Albert Costa, the captain, says that Boss’ experience will be ‘very important for the team’. Plus, you know, his hotness (he didn’t say, but it’ll be important for me).

I’m both delighted and think that this could prove a far better choice than Robredo – what do you guys think?

(And thank you to AmyLu for the heads-up.)

I love them both (actually I love the entire Spaniard hunks) – Life is too hard to be Spain DC captain, choosing among these elite (and hot) players.

    i totes agree.
trob is pretty useless in DC (maybe half-decent in the right dubs pairing, but that´s about it), whereas boss could raise his level when suddenly needed in singles.
mkay, he´d need to raise it by a lot compared to his dysmal fall season showings… but i´ll conveniently ignore that point…

[also, i bow to you that you keep the show running here all on your own despite presumably being short on time/sleep/other valuable ressources. ossum! *bows* ]

Ah, but my wonderful commenters make it all worth it 🙂

I think pretty useless is being pretty kind to Disco Tommy. 🙂 If it weren’t Davis Cup, I’d pick Robredo as his form seemed to be better at the end of the year, but Robredo is one of those players were playing for his country seems to make him not play well.

I am in total agreement that this pick is a better one. And, since JCF led the Spanish DC team to its first title, in the same venue, I just think he deserved to be there again, too.

Yay I’m happy! This is good news, I’m so glad JCF will be included in the squad. I hope he gets to play!

I think I’m looking forward more to the DC final than the WTFs.

In the tie against Germany, when Spain suddenly was forced into a fifth match, Costa tabbed Boss over Robredo and Boss won. Quite frankly if JCF was healthy I didn’t expect him to not get the alternate spot. He’s had a better DC year than Robredo and you go with the record.

Anyway, depending how things go in London with Verdasco and if Costa thinks Ferrer can/can’t get a win, I wouldn’t be surprised to see JCF play a match. Being honest, I’m kinda hoping for it.

I like this a lot! Robredo is a hot mess in Davis Cup (he looks hot, his tennis is a mess). that said, I think this pick might actually have more to do with how Verdasco is feeling than anything else. there’s no way that JCF could sub in for doubles with Feli, so I’m guessing Costa is pretty confident that Fernando will be healthy enough to play. (and possibly David will not.) or maybe we’ll get Rafa doubles! that would be exciting. =)
