A W(TF)in Is a W(TF)in Is a W(TF)in

Posted by gauloises1 on November 25, 2009

Juan Martin del Potro d. Fernando Verdasco, 64 36 76(1)

I didn’t see this one, but apparently it was … well, not great. Still, a win is a win is a win, right? What did you guys think?

And bonus!sweaty skinny moley Elfback:

Roger Federer d. Andy Murray, 36 63 61

In between terrible streams, failing internet and a blown-over satellite dish which took out the world’s coverage for much of the third set (it’s windy in London, OK), I feel very unqualified to form an opinion. And here it is: Roger started slow and finished awesome. I thought he did a brilliant job of breaking down Murray’s game. An impressive way to wrap up the year-end no. 1 ranking.

And am I mad, or is everyone in Group A still technically in with a chance of making the semis?!

Ode to Elfie : (Luckily, he won, so we have something to celebrate)

    Hola, Juan Martin,
    … de mi corazon
    you infiltrate my soul
    like a mutant ribosome.

    Your forehand is insane,
    Your serve is mighty speedy.
You play tennis like a god
even when your nose is bleedy.

I love your Elven features and
    your beefcakeyness makes me dribble.
Lord knows that I would give
pretty much any organ for a nibble.

    I wish we could cavort
even if for just a minute.
    Spoon, snuggle, lick your face
    Yeah, I’m that desperate, innit?

You may not always win your matches–
    yes, this much is true.
But in the end I can safely say
there ain’t no better Juan than you.

This actually made me cry with laughter on the train this morning.

🙂 So glad you enjoyed it. I spent many valuable hours working on it …

(you only THINK I was joking there, but little do you know…)

and no not everyone has a chance… Verdasco is now for the high jump I am afraid but if Delp and Muzzard win their next matches in two then Fudd can still pack up and take his YEAR END #1 RANKING, ONLY SECOND MAN IN HISTORY TO REGAIN IT ETC…home to Basel or Dubai or wherever.

Nothing like an Ode to Delpo to brighten my day 🙂 – thank you. It was a fairly dull match though, to me anywho. not like Rog and Andy, that was a lot more fun

Elf was not awful but not great in the match. His serve seemed better though and his UEs were down. He was more emotive- which can be a good thing. It is still cute to see his tiny little supoorters box populated by two. And he smiled while signing autos afterwards. Elf was cute after he hit a df (I believe) there was a non-call by a lineswoman for a very outball by Nando. Steve U from the chair overruled it as out and when Elf turned around the lineswoman said she couldn’t see because Elf had been blocking her and he apoligized for getting frustrated. It was cute.

Nando was in parts brilliant in part brainless. I really don’t see how anyone can hate him- he seems to heap enough hate unto himself after his brainfarts poor dear. At times I wish I was not a fan because it can be painful.

I think I used the word “cute” 769 times im my previous post. Sorry!

I do hope that Nando can get a win here at WTF….but I don’t think it is likley. Murray will want a win. Nando is always so very, very close but never quite there.

I was a little surprised that the crowd seemed to support Roger more than Andy today. I know he is Saint Fed and farts bunnies but it was still surprising.

On Sunday the excitement when Fed was about to come on court was palpable. I am guessing that a large proportion of the spectators were getting their first chance to see The Federer in the flesh. Tickets to Wimbledon are ridiculously hard to get, even if you enter the public ballot and join two separate local tennis clubs to double your club ballot chances. So just the mention of his name on Sunday made the crowd cheer.

Mathematically, Fer is still in contention. What has to happen:
    * if Roger wins and Fer beats Muzz, Fer, Muzz, and DelPo end up in a three-way-tie match-wise at 1-2.
    * first tiebreak is percentage of sets won.

If Roger and Fer both win in straight sets, the set totals will be:
    Roger 6-2
    Muzz 3-5
    Elf 3-5
    Fer 4-4
which would put Fer through since his 50% would beat Muzz and Elf.

If Roger wins in 2 and Fer wins in 3, the set totals will be:
    Roger 6-2
    Muzz 4-5
    Elf 3-5
    Fer 4-5
which would also put Fer through, -I think-, since he beat Muzz. I’m not 100% sure of that, because rereading the rules, it’s unclear to me whether percentage of games won takes precedence over H2H, or is to be considered only if H2H are also equal.

So.. If Federer and Verdasco both win in 3, it becomes all kinds of crazy???

      Federer 6-3
      Murray 4-5
      Del Potro 4-5
      Verdasco 4-5 – the 3 men tie

H2H – Murray beat DelPotro, who beat Verdasco, who in this scenario beats Murray… (the 3 men tie in H2H as well!)

Games percentage would decide it, I believe?

Who said RR format is boring?

That ode to Elf is genius, when you nose is bleedy? Hysterical, along with Roger shitting chocolate bunnies, oh dearie me I don’t think I’ll be able to properly concentrate today with that in mind…On the match, I followed it online (lives scores/commentary) that boy was giving me palpitations at times (when doesn’t he) but won in the end. Phew. Now if he maintain his play throughout (pretty please) I’ll be a happy bunny.

What a great thread! Your ode is brilliant! Send it to him! Either you’ll get a call from a man with a sexy south american accent asking you for to a candle-lit dinner or your door will be busted down by police at 3 am.

There were moments of brilliance in the Elf-Verdasco match but neither would have beaten Roger as he played against Murray. Overall I thought it was pretty decent match but then I think EVERY match Elf is in is brilliant, especially when he wins.
So Elf plays Roger tomorrow is it? A walk in the park for our man Elf. Go on Juan Martin!

  10. It looks like you are a real specialist. Did you study about the subject? hehe
