I Am Spartacus (But Not the Original One)

Posted by gauloises1 on December 5, 2009

Let me clear this up so people stop e-mailing me about it … a few days ago I become aware of another tennis fan blog called New Balls, Please. This blog has been in existence since 2008 and is therefore considerably older than mine.

As anyone who recalls the nightmare I went through trying to move URLs in the summer due to a similar problem will imagine, there was a certain amount of ‘WHY GOD, WHY?!!!’ at this realisation. I had never heard of this blog before that and it didn’t show up in the Google search I did before moving to this URL, at least not on the first 15 pages or so. I’ve been in contact with the people from the original New Balls, Please and they have accepted my explanation that I was not aware of their blog before naming mine.

They also don’t see any problem with the two blogs continuing to co-exist, and neither do I; we obviously have quite different styles and I imagine people will find the new balls that suit them.

So if you would like to see the original …

Just to recap: (i) they are older than me, (ii) I did not know about them before this week, (iii) it will hopefully not be a problem in the future.

OK? OK. Now please stop e-mailing me about it …

*Phew* I got scared at first that you would have to change names again. I remember how much that stressed you out- hell, it stressed ME out for you, haha. Though I do think socklesswonder.wordpress.com is still available just in case!

The other blog looks fun too, but this is home =)

I really like this site, but will pop over and have a look at the other one. 🙂 Found this in relation to Elf’s exhibition match against Gonzalez:

Unseeded Juan Martin del Potro Tandil was “visited” by members of the barra brava of Newell’s Old Boys, after the exhibition match played on Wednesday night against Chile’s Fernando Gonzalez in the gymnasium of the institution, Rosario.

According to the newspaper from Rosario, La Capital, No. 5 world ranking was caught inside the locker room by the bar, who demanded “a collaboration” as rackets, shirts or tennis what the “deemed necessary.”

According to the newspaper article, it went through a stressful time not only gave Del Potro a shirt but also “one of the organization had reached into his wallet and handed over some money for the men in question cleared the area as soon as possible. ”

Aware of the fact, Newell’s president, Guillermo Llorente, approached him where he was the winner of the 2009 U.S. Open finalist and recent Masters tournament in London, to ask relevant apologies on behalf of the institution Rosario.

However, since the environment of the player was leaked to some discomfort and a warning from Del Potro to “never return” to Rosario.

Del Potro, the No. 1 Argentine tennis, dominoes with his power and leaning on a strong serve as a rival Gonzalez (11th in the ATP), also very strong and powerful owner of a service, installed on the synthetic pitch in Newell’s indoor stadium.

Thus, Del Potro, U.S. Open champion almost three months ago, closed their season on an informal basis since it was officially ended last Sunday, losing to Russian Nikolay Davydenko defining Masters Cup in London.

After the game, the Argentine who won in straight sets, said: “Thank you all for coming. I am very pleased to close this great year here in Rosario. For a city of the interior is much effort to organize an exhibition as well and is good to share this with the people inside, because I too was born at home, “he said. Like everything changed after a while when he lived a very hard time.

What a shame he had an unpleasant experience. 😦

Ooops! Did something wrong there… Aynway This was the gist of the article:

    Do not want to return

Glad it’s all sorted out and amicable. 🙂

WTF? Were they crazed fans? Couldn’t have been new ballers cos surely we wouldn’t have backed down by the offer of a measly shirt or cash. The words ‘barra brava of Newell’s Old Boys’ has some pretty sinister undertones. Did they want to harm him?
    Feckers! Let me at ’em!

I know, was furious as I read that. Nothing more than common albeit very menacing bullies wanting their ‘cut’ of Juan. Arseholes.

Better understanding of what happened from a poster on a forum:

Football hooligans from one of the most important teams of that city somehow managed to reach him in the locker room, and he had to give them a racket, and some money. They didn’t ask for it in a nice way I guess.
He seems to have decided to never return to Rosario.

Hooligans in Argentina aren’t just wild low class football fans, they are also a mafia, which are involved in many businesses, and even work for politicians sometimes.

How awful….he has already said that he was kind of shell shocked after the success of the USO- but this has to be a new type of shock.

Glad the stuff about the websites was cleared up. I love this site and the other one looks good too.
