When Was He Federer, Exactly?

Posted by gauloises1 on January 2, 2010

Poor Kolya. Started off last season with a heel injury that kept him out for months; this year, it’s bronchitis. And lapses in concentration, apparently, according to the man himself after his patchy loss to Ferru in Abu Dhabi.

“I did not play bad,” said Davydenko. “But I did not play good either. I made too many mistakes. In the third set, I thought I had won but lost my concentration. I thought ‘I am playing well, now I can play like Federer does’. But after a few mistakes I realised ‘OK, I’m not Federer anymore’. He started to give me trouble, I started losing my serve and then I lost my confidence.

“Also, the problem for me was that I started to feel sick. I was in the hospital on Wednesday with bronchitis and have been on antibiotics since. On Wednesday I could not have even hit a ball, but yesterday I felt a lot better and thought I could play three sets. The antibiotics take five days, so hopefully I will be OK for Doha next week.”

I wonder if it’s something new, or a continuation of the undiagnosed breathing problems he had towards the end of last season? Anyway.

Get well soon.

Aww, poor Kolya. Hope he’s feeling better for Doha, but most of all, I just really want him to play the Australian Open this year.

Aww Kolya, you poor poor man. 😦

I’m not exactly a fan yet somehow I’d LOVE to see him win a slam this year (or at somepoint)
    Hope he gets better soon.

Poor Kolya. I bet this is a lingering problem from last season…which was just 3 week ago. Friggin’ ATP.

Anyhooooo, I think it is HI-larious that he admits he “thought he was Federer”. That is so honest and funny.
