Saturday OOPs (and an apology)

Posted by gauloises1 on January 8, 2010

So … sorry for the unscheduled lack of updates this week. It turns out that this blog, much like the British transport infrastructure, doesn’t function too well in sub-zero temperatures. I have now made it home, but we’re still buried under about eight inches of snow, have almost run out of food and most worrying of all, are down to our last bottle of red wine. And there’s a hole in my left welly boot.

Glad you have made it safely home! Jewell sent me photos of the snow — I have to admit, I’m slightly jealous. I still haven’t adjusted to living in the Southern US and not having a proper snowfall every year (and of course, whenever I go northward at Christmas, it’s just cold and no snow falls) — although I know if there was any accumulation of snow here, everything would just cease to function, and we would run out of groceries, wine, and beer.

The Tennis Channel is going to be showing Hopman Cup tonight, and the Brisbane semis and finals are on tape-delay (which makes me grumble, but it’s better than nothing). I’m really intrigued by the Clijsters/Henin final. No TV coverage of Doha, but I feel like that may be for the best…and I’m hoping Cilic can defend his title in Chennai.

It is ridculously beautiful, don’t get me wrong. I’ve had a couple of magic snow moments (midnight tobogganing in central London being one) and the sight of four-foot icicles around my front door is a thrill … but I’ve just started a new job and I *have* to be there, so the annoyance of the frozen hell that invariably lies between me and my destination is paramount. And we’re just not used to it here, we don’t have anything set up to deal with it. My mum keeps telling me I should be hardier as I was born in Minnesota. I keep telling her it doesn’t work that way …

I’m sorry you got snowed out, and I’m even sorrier that you’re almost out of wine, but I’m glad you’re back- I missed you!!!

I got to wake up this morning to see Roddick play BEAUTIFULLY at the end of the second set and take a good match from Richard (who looked to be playing really well), and hopefully I will be able to end my day with a Roddick victory over Tomas. My real life is truly just filler between tennis matches it seems.

But no matter what happens against Berdych, after seeing him play a bit the past couple of days I’m cautiously optimistic this year will not be a complete disaster.

Of course it won’t! I have more faith in Andy than you do.

20cms is forecast to fall overnight here with more tomorrow, so I can’t promise it’s quite back to normal service, but thank you 🙂 And as for wine, we do have white, I just slightly prefer red. OH THE HUMANITY.
