Verdasco Wins Kooyong, Nole Loses to Small Child

Posted by gauloises1 on January 17, 2010

My bad, for some reason I totally thought this tournament had already finished or something. Well, it has now.

In what has to be a huge confidence boost heading into the Australian Open with semi-final points to defend, Fernando Verdasco defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga for the AAMI Classic trophy in Kooyong last night, 75 63.

For some reason, I find photos like this really endearing.

Anyway, are the Kooyong lineswomen just flinging themselves on to the court, or what?

Shiny.

So’s the trophy.

Having a less good day was Novak Djokovic, who lost 64 36 75 to wunderkind Bernard Tomic.

No word yet on whether Nole was suffering from swine flu.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. So very happy for Nando, he has lots of points to defend and I hope he is able to do so.

Also, I thought I would HATE HATE HATE the kit, but I think it’s working for me- of course, the bar was set low with the Cheetah disaster last year.

I so far prefer the Cheetah business to this – although that’s probably because I haven’t actually seen this kit in action yet (bad tennis fan!) and also the Cheetah kit looked fucking hot on Pico, although so does everything, up to and including clothes woven out of his own vomit.

I have no evidence for that last part.

LOL. God, the Cheetah was ATROCIOUS. We’ll just have to agree to disagree on this issue G (as, you know, we do on almost every other tennis related issue, haha).

Can anyone tell me what exactly Nole is doing? I was so high on his chances for the Australian Open title, but then he played in Kooyong…and now I’m wondering if I need to worry when he plays his early rounds. *sighs*

Yes, me too. There was something about it that felt right for the Open – until these losses, particularly the one to Verdasco (no offence to Verdasco intended, but that is exactly the sort of player he needs to be beating if he hopes to win the AO).

I have actually entertained the thought that maybe he’s sort of playing possum a little bit in order to be more under the radar … that’s pure insanity, isn’t it? Oh dear.

OK, I shall settle for hoping he gets his shit together.

hmm am i alone in absolutly loving nandos gear? i think he looks sh*t hot! espeacially in the green, theres a blue version of that shirt i confess im still iffy about, and i thought he pulled of the cheetah patterened top very well lol

i hope he does just as well this year at the AO as last year!, he really deserves it, and he takes a good trophy photo 😉

I really like it too. The promos for it are awful, but I think it really works. I can’t wait to see it “in action” at the AO!!

But, I mean, it’s Nando- he ALWAYS looks “sh*t hot!”

promos almost always look ridiculous, i feel sorry for the guys whe they have to do them.
are you going to the AO?

Unfortunately no, I’m stuck in NY doing all-nighters to keep up with the action =) You’re going, right? I can’t wait for the reports!!
