AO Day Eight: Everybody’s a Winner

Posted by gauloises1 on January 25, 2010

Apart from half the people in this post who did, in fact, lose.

Your winners:

Your not-winners:

In conclusion: Victoria Azarenka really impressed me in toughing out a three-set win (including a bagel) over Vera Zvonareva; Jo lost his five-set virginity and didn’t seem to mind too much; Serena was on terrifying form; and Kolya goes into his showdown with Federer with his aura of invincibility more than a little battered.

I’m starting to think of Verdasco like meat tenderizer. Seems like his job is to soften up the tough competition for the next person they face.

I was very impressed with Almagro even though he lost. He has always imo the talent, just not the right stuff between the ears and proper dedication. Maybe playing with a broken wrist freed him somewhat.

I have always liked Nico for some strange reason even since he dedicated one of his wins to fans who had been heckling him. I hope that he can have good form this year.

Despite my general distaste for Almgags, I was thoroughly impressed by how he played — he had some of the most amazing shots of the tournament, perhaps.

And even though I only saw the 5th set of the Tsonga/Almgags match (when it was already up to 4-4, no less), I honestly thought that was the best match I’ve seen thus far. YAY WOO and such.

in that photo Zvonareva kind of looks like she just ate a ball kid! thats a mighty unflattering angle.

jo-wils match was awesome! im not a huge nico fan but i wa simpressed with how well he played he managed to return shots that probably should have been coming back over the net, but being the jo-wil fangirl that i am im super thrilled that he won, this match was made all the more enjoyable by having Henri Leconte be a commentator for the match, he is beyond awesome xD
