AO Day Eleven: Justine vs. Serena

Posted by gauloises1 on January 29, 2010

Justine Henin and Serena Williams will face each other in Saturday’s final after the ‘Golden Flowers’, Zheng Jie and Li Na, who did so well to reach the semifinals were both ousted.

Sisters are doing it for the PRC themselves.

Having played really well throughout her last few matches and picked by some totally unbiased pundits as the favourite, Zheng was pwned by Justine, 61 60. I haven’t had a chance to catch up on what I missed, and I have to say I don’t think I really want to, judging by that scoreline.

Can we take a moment and deal with the fact that Justine Henin is actually in the final, though? The final. In her second tournament back on the tour. She’s doing pretty well for a retired lady. It just goes to show. I’m not sure what it goes to show, exactly, but I’m sure it illustrates something or other very clearly.

Anyway. Li Na gave a rather better account of herself but was unable to make a Williams clean sweep, falling to Serena 76(4) 76(1). Well, at least she made Serena work for it, right?

But seriously now: can Justine beat Serena? Can she?! What do you guys think?

Oh, I love Justine! It’s a pleasure to watch her playing, and especially that awsesome backhand… just perfect! I missed her and I’m so happy she’s back 😀

Pete Bodo has actually picked Justine to go out in EVERY SINGLE MATCH this AO. including the first round to Kirsten Flipkens. So… please, Pete, pick Serena!
