Tuesday Results: Tipsy, Malisse Out

Posted by gauloises1 on February 3, 2010

Did I say things were happening? They are. Not very interesting things, but things. The top four seeds were all in action in Johannesburg today; La Monf and Ferru fairly breezed through over Hrbaty and Beck respectively, but Marco Chiudinelli was ousted by Jamaica’s finest, Dustin Brown, and Feliciano Lopez had a bit of work to do before overcoming  Benjamin Balleret 63 in the third.

The biggest news of the day in Zagreb was fifth seed Janko Tipsarevic falling to Michael Berrer in straight sets, and … that’s it. Daniel Koellerer won a match, so it’s a safe bet some ridiculous behaviour was encountered. Santiago lost seeds Simon Greul and Horacio Zeballos to Souza and Kubot respectively, and Nose Job did well to put away Nico Lapentti 61 in the third. Gonzo’s expected on court a bit later on … and have a photo of Pico, because he beat Massu yesterday and I didn’t get a chance to talk about it until now.

OK, I am Jamaican and first of all I love your blog. This is the first time I have ever seen a Jamaican mentioned in an ATP tournament. I am so going to have to follow that tournament now. Dustin Brown. Go on with your bad self. LOL

Well I don’t want to alarm you, TennisAce, but it looks like Dustin Brown is well on his way against Laurent Recourdec – he’s a set and a break up!

Tennis Ace- I read some AO qualifying reports on MTF and some of the posters who saw Dustin Brown there (I think he made it to the last round of qualies) said he was very popular with the fans.

And yay- Pico. Time for a title.

Thanks for that guys. I have been trying to see the scores for today or get a live stream for his match but due to time differences have not been able to see anything. I will have to inform the media here in Jamaica about Dustin’s big win. You go boy.

He won again today and is into the quarters. Nice run for him.

I read that he recently thought about quitting the sport for financial reasons (he gets no $ from the Jamiacian Federation and has only earned around $110K in his career). It will be nice for him to get a decent paycheck.

And from an eye candy perspective- he is good for the sport. 😉
