Delpo: Return Date Ambiguous, Nominated For Laureus Award

Quick update on the JMDP wrist situation after Franco Davin spoke to the press:
“What happened was something that surprised us all because Juan Martin was doing very well in training,” Franco Davin, Del Potro’s coach, said.
“In the final training session he felt a pain. He went for a scan and the problem was detected. The important thing now is for him to recover and return to playing without discomfort.”
A lot of the websites that reported the news have backtracked from the initial eight weeks assessment too, now only saying that Delpo aims to return for Indian Wells and Miami (11th and 24th March, respectively). Hmmm. Much as I would love to see him playing those events (obviously nowhere near as much as the people who’ve actually got tickets to go), I’d rather he took a prolonged break if that’s what he needs to get properly rid of this problem. But what’s it got to do with me? They know their business …
Anyway, Delpo has also been nominated for a Laureus award in the ‘Breakthrough of the Year’ category, along with three Brits: F1 driver Jenson Button, teenage diver and rumoured Robbo sweetheart Tom Daley, and cyclist Mark Cavendish. There’s also a golfer and some guy I’ve never heard of. Other tennis stars nominated for awards are Roger Federer (Sportsman of the Year), Serena Williams (Sportswoman of the Year), and Kim Clijsters (Comeback of the Year).
And that is all the Delpo news I have for you right now.
