The Return of the King Aborted Again

Posted by gauloises1 on February 19, 2010

A bit how like the film had constant fake endings, but this one with fake beginnings: after winning his first two matches at his first tournament since last May, beating Potito Starace and Daniel Gimeno-Traver, David Nalbandian has been forced to withdraw from Buenos Aires with a right leg injury.

“I felt something in my abductor (muscle)… My trainer said perhaps I should not play on but I can’t do that in Buenos Aires with this crowd that gives me so much support,” Nalbandian said courtside.

Had he been playing anywhere else he would have pulled out on the spot, he added later.

The injury will also keep him out of Acapulco and Davis Cup. Do I have to spell it out that this fucking sucks?

    *sigh*

This is the most depressing news EVER.

I’m beginning to think Carlos Costa is bad luck — he’s both Rafa and David’s agent, and let’s just say it seems like one or the other has continually been injured for the past year.

Poor David. Just as I was thinking he’s back and we’ll hear more of him, this.

Bad luck 😦 I hope he gets better soon and makes all the Nalby fans happy again.

Do you what Fing sucks? Why the hell couldn’t he have retired while he was playing against Daniel Gimeno-Traver? Dani deserved to play instead of Nalbandian, washed up as he is, knew he was hurt but played on, knowing full well he would probably have to pull out. WTF.
    Another reason to hate Nalbandian.

David didn’t retire because he felt that he owed it to his home crowd to finish the match. As a way of giving something back for all their support, also during his long injury pause.
And no, he didn’t know during the match that he would have to pull out of the tournament. It took an examination and scan on the following to day to finally make him realize that he wouldn’t be able to play the quaterfinal
So if you think that this more reason to hate him – be my guest.

This reminds me of Rafa’s comeback last summer when he got the abdominal tear. It takes time. Sucks, but its true. I can’t tell you how glad I was to have Nalby back in the mix. But-I have faith he will be back. I have learned as a Rafa fan…it all takes a boat load of patience.
