Maria Takes Memphis Title

Posted by gauloises1 on February 21, 2010

Congratulations to Maria Sharapova, who notched up her first wins of the year this week and ended with the title, beating Sofia Arvidsson 62 61. She hasn’t dropped a set all week. Obviously she’s not been facing top-tier opposition, but at least she’s had a few matches where things seem to have been clicking.

Congratulations to Maria on her 21st title.

You’ll never be short of an indistinguishable large crystal vase thingy in her house.

Good news. Much better outfit than the one in Oz as well. Although I have this notion she’s about to pull a notepad out of a pocket to write my breakfast order down.

Some players come back from injury full of confidence and win a Grand Slam. Some players have to win an itty bitty tournament with absolutely no top players in order to build confidence. And they say she is the mentally toughest competitor in women’s tennis. I wonder how true that all was. Whatever

We will find out how tough she will be when she play the Indian Wells/Miami swing. Good thing for her is that the Williams Sisters will be taking their annual vacation when Indian Wells is played. Also, if Serena leg is more injured than the media thought, Maria chances increases only slightly.
