D Cup: Pico Out, Delbo In. Not a Typo.

Posted by gauloises1 on March 1, 2010

So, as I mentioned in a previous post, Juan Monaco injured what looked like an intercostal muscle during his semi-final match against Juan Carlos Ferrero in Acapulco on Friday. He is as a consequence out of a Davis Cup squad already lacking del Potro and Nalbandian and facing a tie against the nation of Robin Soderling. Even seeing him get a shirtless massage doesn’t make up for that.

So who are Argentina sending in his place in what is increasingly a suicide mission to Sweden? Step forth, Federico Del Bonis. Your time has come.

Delbo is nineteen years old, left-handed and, according to a tennistical expert of my acquaintance, ‘kind of looks like a handsomer Nose Job’. Leaving aside the fact that there is no such thing as a handsomer Nose Job, Del Bonis is currently ranked 211 in the world with a career high of 195, has won two Challenger titles and a Futures, is currently 1 for 6 in 2010, and has played just one ATP main draw match in his young life (against Wawrinka in Gstad). He lost it.

Still, I’m sure it’ll go well.

I have faith in Delbo. Mostly because “Delbo” is as fun to say as “DelPo.”

and c’mon — a Davis Cup team composed of (I’m assuming) Chucho, Horsey, and this guy? Could it get any BETTER?

    (Answer: yes, yes it could.)

Just kidding about Chucho — he’s injured or vacationing or fell off the face of the Earth too, right?

      Schwank it is.

no Chucho, he’s injured too. Horacio Zeballos and the awesomely named Eduardo Schwank will be repping for Argentina. which should just start crying now and save time.

You know, I’m actually starting to look forward to it, in a really, really weird way.

Ever read Eleanor Rigby where the protagonist gets her wisdom teeth removed in her forties and uses it as an excuse to go on a ‘verklempt-o-thon’? I’m going to treat it like that.

you know what? ’cause I’m a sick twisted gal, I’m actually starting to want to watch even though I said i’m not gonna watch this massacre. oh well, I say a lot of things. Just give me a couple of wine bottles and I’m sure I’ll be able to get through this.

He is a del Bonus and looking at him gives me a del Boner quite frankly.
