D Cup: Spain 4 – 1 Switzerland
Posted by gauloises1 on March 8, 2010
If only Switzerland had a second world class player, eh? Or Spain didn’t have about a hundred. The defending champions are through to a quarterfinal against France after pretty comprehensively demolishing the challengers in Logrono. Switzerland’s single point came from Wawrinka’s win against Almagro on the opening day, but that combined with the doubles yesterday and the fact that this is his first tournament back since his daughter was born seemed to leave him with nothing left. He went down pretty tamely to David Ferrer, 62 64 60.
What’s particularly mad is that David Ferrer – who kept the Armada afloat by beating Chiudinelli on Friday and clinched the tie against Wawrinka today – might not even get a singles spot for that quarterfinal. Which I think would be a shame, because I love Davis Cup warrior!Ferru, as the following small picspam will demonstrate:
France next … did I mention that? Should be a good one.
R4 – D.FERRER (ESP) def. S.WAWRINKA (SUI)
6-2 6-4 6-0
R5 – N.ALMAGRO (ESP) def. M.CHIUDINELLI (SUI)
6-1 6-3

At the beginning of last year’s Davis Cup matches, I was so looking forward to a massive D-cup warrior/man-love spectacle of Spain v France in the final. In the quarter final, it’s not so awesome. With Argentina also in this half, I’m kind of hating this draw.

I’m just really pleased that France and Argentina are still in the draw. I honestly didn’t think that would be the case, certainly for Argentina.

Aw Ferru! He just makes me smile.
Why won’t he get a singles spot for the QF? Is it ‘cos Rafa, Feli and Verdasco will push past him?
That would be uncool, if that’s the case.

If Rafa and Verdasco were both healthy, it could happen. I’m just saying, theoretically it could happen.

no dont replace Ferru that would make the team like 98% less sexy….and we all know thats not a good thing!
Spain vs France should be quite fun!

No don’t replace Ferru as he’s the grittiest fighter out there…who will grind and grind and grind if necessary…. and he is totally hot…
