Avoid Those Doctors, Lanky Donkey

Posted by gauloises1 on March 16, 2010

(If you didn’t know ‘Nikolay Davydenko’ is an anagram for ‘Avoid Lanky Donkey’, well, now you do.)

Sad news for the Kolyanation: Nikolay Davydenko was forced to withdraw from his third round match with Viktor Troicki because of a broken left wrist. Kolya has been suffering since he fell on his wrist during Rotterdam, but the injury was apparently misdiagnosed and he tried to play on until pain and swelling forced him to hand the walkover to Troicki. An MRI scan then revealed a fracture that had been missed.

Kolya will apparently be in a splint for four weeks and who knows how much time he’ll miss. Which really, really sucks. Get well soon, Donkey; we miss you when you’re gone …

HOW the hell has been playing with a broken wrist since Rotterdam? And I sure as heckuva ain’t no doctor or nuthin’, but doesn’t a broken wrist seem like a fairly straightforward thing to figure out?

This is his left arm, the one he helps his BH with, and players are used to play with some degree of pain almost all the time.

Apparently, this is not a bone completely broken in two nor a compound fracture, but a hairline stress fracture. A wrist consists of several tiny bones and such thin crack can be detected only by a 360-degree scan.

Such misdiagnoses are actually pretty common, people do walk about (and play tennis) with undetected stress fractures.

Sharing doctors w/ Masha? BTW Viktor’s only played 1 game and he’s into the fourth round. Get well, Kolya.
