Like the Oscars, But More Meaningful

Posted by gauloises1 on March 25, 2010

The 2010 Sony Ericsson WTA Player Awards were given out yesterday in Miami, with Serena picking up Player of the Year; Serena and Venus jointly taking Doubles Team/Fan Favourite Doubles Team of the Year; Kim Clijsters nabbing Comeback and Sportsmanship, Yanina Wickmayer taking Most Improved, Melanie Oudin Newcomer of the Year, and Elena Dementieva winning Fan Favourite Singles Player of the Year.

Meanwhile, Horacio Zeballos picked up the ATP award for Breakthrough of the Year, or something along those lines. I don’t know, I just like looking at his gentle eyes.

I feel like he would gently stroke your hair. For hours. Without being asked.

… or strong his own hair, which seems to occasionally have a life of his own.

I like Serena’s outfit, it’s kinda cute. But the hair. Not the hair

Hold up, Demmy won fan favourite? I read it elsewhere but it just didn’t sink in. I mean I love Demmy, she’s a classy broad. But I sat for an hour watching the lady practice and there was NOONE around. There was a handful of autograph seekers that approached at the end of her practice. Where were all these supposed fans? Are they just really shy? Do they all live in Russia? If so you’d think the Russian vote would be split, and defeat their advantage, right? Even with Demmy’s gold medal, which you know, was like 2 years ago now. And aside from those, how to put it, functional sunglasses she recently took to promoting it’s not like she’s plastered all over the place. Someone explain this to me. Was there some sort of underground social movement, twitter trend thing to vote for Demmy that I missed out on?

I thought exactly the same thing. Like you say, Demmy is all class, but with a few rare exceptions, she doesn’t seem to inspire mass fan passion.

      Yeah, I’m confused.

Like Demmy, us fans are a low key bunch. Thanks for all that pondering. 😛

    And on a fashion note:

Above the waist – what a fresh cotton shirt. Venus always looks so classy.
Below the waist – Are those ug boots? In Miami?

Wicky dear, next time, borrow something from Demmy’s closet, not Kim’s. And no white pumps. Just no.
