4 and 0. Sigh.

Posted by gauloises1 on May 9, 2010

Mikhail Youzhny d. Marin Cilic, 63 46 64

So … this was a tough one to watch. The tennis was really great, and for a while it really looked like Marin was going to pull it out of the bag; after giving up an early break in the first, he fought doggedly to keep it to just that single break advantage, and although he was unable to hold on to the early break he in turn gained at the beginning of the second, he looked slightly the better player throughout and eventually nabbed it when Youzhny flubbed a baseline smash into the net. The third set was a marathon and Marin had break points, but a couple of unlucky net cords within the one game undid him and Youzhny served it out for his first Munich title in his third final. And I was very sad for Marin.

He was pretty sad for himself, too.

But … it was great match and Youzhny played really well, so it’s good that he won. What? Stop looking at me.

Mischa carries out a controlled explosion.

Wow Marin looks pretty hot in his sad state of disappointment…

I don’t know what it is but these pics ALMOST make me sad I didn’t vote for him. Must be the 5 o’clock shadow – I have a huge thing for scruffy looking men. Anyway mark that date on your calendar, ’cause I firmly plan on never being attracted to him again. What – I have a reputation of non-fan to maintain!

Oh and I have nothing insightful to say about the match, as usual.

Speaking of having nothing insightful to say… Worst. Trophies. Ever.

WHAT?? That’s the trophy? I thought it was a pair of concert tickets – probably for Ramstein, you know, being in Germany and all. Awful. But try as it may it doesn’t beat the Yoshi egg one. Always number 1 on my list of fugly trophies.

    I prefer clean-shaven Marin…
Congrats to Mischa, he gets a BMW, no? As for Marin, this is an okay loss for me considering their h2h and better than the last few losses.
