The Withdrawal Method: Screw You, Nature

Posted by gauloises1 on May 9, 2010

Novak Djokovic was forced to retire against Filip Krajinovic in the quarterfinals of the Belgrade Open on Friday, and has now been forced to withdraw from the Madrid Open next week, putting his Roland Garros preparations in doubt.

Nole was suffering with allergies in Belgrade and obviously feels he’s in no shape to compete this week. Which basically sucks. Get better soon, Nole, we love you.

Is it true that Nole was booed by the crowd after he retired? I would find that incredibly depressing and sad so I’m hoping it’s not true. 😦

Don’t know what to think about Nole at all. I had high hopes that the transition to clay would help after his struggles on hard in IW and Miami, but if anything, clay seems to be leaving his game in even greater disarray. *sighs*

Seems like his body/mind/game are never all in unison, and as much as I’m not a Nole fan, I really hate to see a player struggle so much because of mental/physical health issues.

I was one of the first to mock Nole because of the allergy issues, I’ll admit it, but obviously it’s more serious than I thought, I know he wants to play.

It’s just a bit unsettling how fragile he can be all around- I don’t mean that so much as a dig, but more as a concern. I sometimes feel like he could just curl up in a ball and cry on court- he just wears his heart on his sleeve, sometimes a bit too much for this sport I think.

I watched the match and yes, Nole was booed off the court. Not just by a few people in the crowd, but pretty much by the entire crowd. I was stunned.

Yes it’s true, he was booed.
What I don’t understand is why he doesn’t take his health issues more seriously??? He managed to play a football game with Vlade Divac, Bodiroga…
