The Long and the Long Of It

Posted by gauloises1 on May 10, 2010

Sam Querrey d. John Isner, 36 76(4) 64

A tough day in Belgrade for the two tall drinks of unlikely tennis player as good buddies Sam Querrey and John Isner faced each other in a final for the second time this year – only to have it end much the same way. In Memphis, Isner was up a set and 5-2; today, he served for the match and even had match point at 63 54, only for an errant forehand and a subsequent failure to put it behind him to cost him the match. Does Isner have a buddy problem, or does he just have problems closing out matches? Answers on a postcard.

Anyway, from what I saw, Sam played better as the match went on and thoroughly deserved his title – which, incidentally, made him the first man to win a title on European clay since 2003. And while big John was clearly crushed, there’s no way this trophy presentation (with special guests!) won’t have cheered him up at least a little. It did me.

Who knew Nole was such a midget?!

Nole! So tiny he is. Well, my Delicate Flower indeed.
And Marat! in a suit. Crushing. *gasping for air*

Marat will never stop being so excruciatingly hot.
A genuine predator to knickers worldwide.

Marat in a suit is indeed delectable – although I’m still not clear why exactly he was there – but Nole’s jeans/sleeves rolled up/watch look is really working for me.

I mean … really quite a lot. Really.

        I know. Too good.

And Marat was there throughout the entire tournament in the capacity of the Serbia Open 2010 tournamnet promoter. And Nole adores him. Always has. And Marat knows it.

Cannot believe how tiny Nole looks in that photo.

Oh, and Miljan Amanovic, Nole’s physio, was today on TV giving an interview.
He said Nole was taken to hospital on Saturday for a thorough medical check and was diagnosed with Pollen allergy, Ragweed (Ambrosia) allergy, bronchitis, and upper respiratory tract infection. *shudders*

Marat looks incredible here. I won’t mind if he’s not playing tennis, as long as he’ll occasionally show up in a suit at tournaments. 🙂

When I first showed JJ the last photo (he was sitting across the room so he didn’t see it very closely), he asked who the “kid” was in it. Nole really does like tiny compared to those three!

Am really hoping that Isner’s inability to close out finals doesn’t become a habit (or if it is a habit, it’s only when he plays Sam).

I’m not sure if words can describe how much I love the last picture. Suave Marat is always a welcome sight.

Looks like we all kinda miss Marat… for all the wrong reasons! 🙂

I really hope Nole fixes his many health problems in time to play RG – I will be crush if he misses it.

But in the mean time, MEOW to you gentlemen. No, not you Quisner. >^..^<

I really want to know whose idea it was to put the shortest guy next to the tallest guy.

I love both John and Sam, so this final was a win-win for me. Though I’m sercertly glad Sam won.
