Wimbledon Titlists: And the Rest

Posted by gauloises1 on July 6, 2010

Congratulations to the other champions from Wimbledon 2010. It’s been an amazing fortnight for all sorts of people.

Mixed Doubles: Paes/Black d. Moodie/Raymond, 64 76(5)

I watched them lose last year, so this pleases.

Ladies’ Doubles: Shvedova/King d. Vesnina/Zvonareva, 76(6) 62

Tough day for Vera, but these two are adorable.

And my favourite team of the year …

Gentlemen’s Doubles: Petzschner/Melzer d. Lindstedt/Tecau, 61 75 75

To quote Petzsch, “I’ve fcking won wimbledon!omg.”

Classic.

And among the juniors …

Boys’ Singles: Marton Fucsovics d. Benjamin Mitchell, 64 64

Fucsovics? Yes please. Also delighted to see he’s carrying on the tradition of boys’ singles winners being cute as a little pie.

Girls’ Singles: Kristyna Pliskova d. Sachie Ishizu, 63 46 64

The Czech Republic = the new Serbia?

And a quartet of tiny Tims …

Boys’ Doubles: Tom Farquharson/Liam Broady d. Lewis Burton/George Morgan

I nominate all four to the GBR Davis Cup squad, effective immediately.

did you see Petzschner kiss a tennis ball and give it to Melzer, and Melzer do the same in return? Floved it.

      OMG, I forgot about that.

That’s it, when I get home tonight I’m rewatching the whole damn match.

        +1.

Suddenly, Pterror/Melz in WTF doubles doesn’t seem so farfetched. Which now I want something fierce. Get your schedules in sync and make it happen, boys!

Dude, they’re in even if they don’t qualify with points, no? Cuevas/Horna got through in 2008 cos of their RG title. I’M THOOOWW EXTHITTEDDDD!

Are they?! OMG, I so hope they play one of the night sessions I’ve got tickets for. That’s a doubles match I would actually watch with some attention.

(No offence, doubles fans. I’m just a terrible person.)

That is both my favourite new meme, and my favourite thing any tennis player has ever said ever via twitter … better than Zeballos mystifyingly discussing the mucho eggs in Argentina … better than Timo Nieminen’s coining a phrase with ‘fuck on!’ … better than Dinara calling everyone ‘twittys’ … even better than Sveta!omg

actually the “sorry but I’ve to say” part before it makes it even funnier. I love the guy, he was the one I totally crushed on after a whole day of watching a bunch of people play tennis. It was fun to hear JMac give him props for having a beautiful service motion–he really is beautiful to watch (minus all the UFE he can make, though). And remember, he almost fucking took out the Wimbledon champion…

I’m curious though, why do some people think he’s a terrible person?

          Do they?

yeah, there were mutterings on TW about how some people were tweeting about PP’s horrible behavior…it could have been about nothing, but I was wondering whether there was anything behind it.

            • gauloises1 said

Oh – I think there were some Rafa fans who maybe took some exception to initial reports from PPPP’s presser – if you recall that was the match where Becker was calling out Rafa for his injury timeouts, and I think some of PPPP’s comments (as they were initially tweeted) might have sounded worse than they did when the transcript was read?

That’s the only thing I can think of, I can’t imagine what could have offended about his behaviour during the actual match.

              • crazyone said

I remember this happening *during* the match, long before the pressers. But I dunno, it was probably nothing–I was just curious what people were getting all worked up about.
