‘Den Bosch: Because I Did Promise.

Posted by gauloises1 on June 14, 2010

And because whitelinefervor will visit his wrath upon me if I don’t … all hail Henri Kontinen, who beat Dustin Brown of the Jam planet in ‘den Bosch today. That’s HenKon’s first match since April after he *mumbled* his *mumble* and his first non-Davis Cup ATP main draw win of 2010. Hooray.

Because there are no photos, have one of HenKon bonding with an ostrich.

(More HenKon tomfoolery here.)

ATP Week Ahead: Eastbourne, ‘Den Bosch

Posted by gauloises1 on June 14, 2010

Eastbourne

Random Queens-related comment: I saw Tursunov a couple of days after he’d lost, and he was being a real sweetie about posing for photos and so on for fans. Kudos. Anyway …

Draw here.

Top seeds: Nicolas Almagro, Feliciano Lopez, Gilles Simon, Julien Benneteau, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, Horacio Zeballos, Alexander Dolgopolov, Michael Llodra

A bit lightweight compared to the women’s draw, and very heavy on the clay-courters. Still, Gilles is back – yay! – and it will be interesting to see whether Lopez and Llodra can carry across their good Queens form.

‘Den Bosch

Draw here.

Top seeds: Ivan Ljubicic, Marcos Baghdatis, Tommy Robredo, Victor Troicki, Philipp Petzchner, Thiemo de Bakker, Janko Tipsarevic, Arnaud Clement

Sunday’s results

Singles – First Round
S Greul (GER) d [WC] R Haase (NED) 75 76(5)
S Giraldo (COL) d M Chiudinelli (SUI) 62 75
A Falla (COL) d F Serra (FRA) 64 64
P Luczak (AUS) d M Russell (USA) 76(6) 76(3)

WTA Week Ahead: Eastbourne, ‘Den Bosch

Posted by gauloises1 on June 14, 2010

Eastbourne

Draw here.

Top seeds: Caroline Wozniacki, Francesca Schiavone, Samantha Stosur, Agnieszka Radwanska, Kim Clijsters, Flavia Pennetta, Marion Bartoli

Eastbourne always has such a ridiculously loaded draw, like Queens, and this year is no exception. If you don’t believe me, take a look at these first-round matches: Wozniacki-Rezai, MJMS-Zvonareva, Radwanska-Azarenka, Pavlyuchenkova-Safarova, Wickmayer-Clijsters, Peer-Zheng, and Kleybanova-Kuznetsova. Amazing stuff.

Congratulations meanwhile to Heather Watson, who beat her first top-1oo opponent in Tsvetana Pironkova to make it to the final round of qualifying. Good girl.

s’Hertogenbosch (hereafter referred to as ‘den Bosch, as a bona fide Dutch person said I could call it)

Draw here.

Top seeds: Justine Henin, Dinara Safina, Maria Kirilenko, Yaroslava Shvedova, Alexandra Dulgheru, Sara Errani, Andrea Petkovic, Anabel Medina Garrigues

Dinara Safina’s woes continue as she has already been shown the door by Magdalena Rybarikova, last year’s Edgbaston champion, and watch out for bizarrely successful ‘den Bosch-er, Tamarine Tanasugarn.

Sunday’s results

Singles – First Round
Magdalena Rybarikova (SVK) d. (2) Dinara Safina (RUS) 67(4) 64 64
(7) Andrea Petkovic (GER) d. Petra Kvitova (CZE) 63 76(6)
Dominika Cibulkova (SVK) d. (WC) Laura Robson (GBR) 63 64

Doubles – First Round
(2) Kirilenko/Vesnina (RUS/RUS) d. (WC) Arvidsson/Rus (SWE/NED) 61 62

Singles Qualifying – Final Round
(1) Arantxa Parra Santonja (ESP) d. (6) Anastasia Pivovarova (RUS) 76(1) 64
(2) Anastasia Rodionova (AUS) d. (7) Greta Arn (HUN) 61 63
(3) Sandra Zahlavova (CZE) d. Anne Kremer (LUX) 63 61
(5) Julie Coin (FRA) d. (4) Tatjana Malek (GER) 46 64 64
