Fed Cup Sunday: Um … The Czechs Won

Posted by gauloises1 on February 8, 2010

Czech Republic 3 – Germany 2

To be honest, I didn’t watch any of this one. I can tell you that Lucie Hradecka was subbed in today for Lucie Safarova, who failed to put up much of a fight on Saturday, and did herself proud by taking out Andrea Petkovic 61 76(5) to give the Czechs a slender lead.

Anna-Lena Groenefeld evened things up by taking out Petra Kvitova in three sets, and then Hradecka and Peschke teamed up to take out Groenefeld and a reportedly disappointing Tatjana Malek 61 63 to put the Czech Republic through into the next round.

So … well done there.

Istanbul: Maiden Title for Dushevina

Posted by gauloises1 on August 2, 2009

Vera Dushevina won her first WTA title in Istanbul today, beating Lucie Hradecka 60 61. I watched. It was woeful. Good on Dushevina though.

Continuing today’s theme of trophy issues, though … shouldn’t there be a bigger size disparity between the trophies? Hradecka won one game, and she was kind of lucky to get that.

ONE GAME.

Wednesday WTA Results: Prague, Palermo

Posted by gauloises1 on July 15, 2009

Easy business for the top seeds in Palermo today, with Francesca Schiavone, Sybille Bammer and Carla Suarez Navarro all moving through to the next round without dropping a set. Seventh seed Lucie Hradecka had a tougher time of it, but prevailed over Karolina Sprem in three, going for a little lie down to celebrate.

In Palermo, Flavia Pennetta beat countrywoman Roberta Vinci, but there was some Italian joy as Tathiana Garbin defeated Bastad champion Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez. And Patty Schnyder finally turned up and won a match.
